I write because I don't know what I think, until I read what I say.

I have come across this quote and it can't be more relatable. Writing out our thoughts give us the clarity, organizes our thoughts, ideas, habits and gives an order to our lives. Journalling is the best way by far, at least for me to track my life and time. I write Bullet Journal to keep my life on the right path and to bring me back on track if I deviate from my goals. Here are some ideas on how to get started on bullet journalling. Before we jump into how to bullet journal, I would like to give an overview of what it is and why should you do it.

What is a bullet journal?

Bullet journal is a personal log of your plans, activities, organizing and tracking your habits, to do list and in essence, a notebook to track your life. "Think of it as a next-level diary for not only writing but also drawing. Instead of blank, lined pages, a bullet journal (or BuJo, for short) contains sections to log daily to-dos, keep a monthly or weekly calendar, jot down notes, track both physiological and mental health, and record both short- and long-term goals"- Found this explanation in Oprah daily and I can't put it in a better way.

Why should you bullet journal?

Well, for so many reasons, most important of which is to be mindful of your moments, days, weeks, months and year in general. You have your life plans laid out on a piece of a notebook and all about your dreams, goals, your sketch to attain those goals, habits that keep you happy, healthy and calm, list of things to do on a daily or weekly basis- having all these intricacies of your life compiled in a single notebook is an interesting thing- A very important one if you want to spend your time consciously, not to waste it on futile things.

Things to remember before deciding to bullet journal:

Remember that bullet journal is a plain or a dot-grid notebook that has no fillable columns, or calendars or spreads to track your goals and habits. You should invest your time in setting up one according to your convenience so as to include all that you want to record. There are creative people who consider their BuJo as an art form, but for me, I tend to keep it simple and easy to set up, because I want it to please me even when I do not have the time or mood to make it as beautiful. Do not back out after beginning this amazing journey.

How to get started?

1. Decide your why:

Behind every action that you do, there should be a why. Reasons should drive an action. So, decide why you want to Bullet journal. Think of all that you want to accomplish by organizing your life in a single notebook. Do you want to do more productive work? Do you want to allocate time to learning new things? Do you want to track your progress towards your goal? Do you want to break unyielding habits? Know your whys and so, you can bring out the spreads accordingly.

2. Gather the supplies oh and the mindset:

Now that you have reasoned and made your decision, get your journal. There are several pretty, sturdy and aesthetic bullet journals available on Amazon. I prefer leather bound ones with dot grid pages. I also like to have just 2 or 3 brush pens- (TomBow dual liners) and one 0.5 pen- (Paper mate), however, you can go as more or less fancy as you want. You can choose to invest as more or little time in making your journal to accommodate all that your plans, habits and todo lists.

3. Brainstorm your spread ideas:

Think about what spreads help you cover the aspects of life that you want to focus on. Bullet journal spreads usually have this format: 1. Introducing year and the calendar. 2. Goals for the year. 3. Habits to track this year. 4. Goal tracker by month. 5. Monthly overview. 6. Month introduction page and the calendar for the month. 7. Monthly goals and notes. 8. Habit tracker. 9. Sleep tracker. 10. Study tracker 11. Weekly spreads 12. Souvenirs' collection.

4. Just do it:

Inaction destroys most of a man's dreams than failure. Beginning is also the hard part. So, once we decide upon the spread ideas, find 2 hours and allocate entirely to setting up the journal. You will thank yourself later for having done that. Not just setting up but following through it also makes a lot of difference. Be consistent in tracking, filling, writing your to do lists, tracking your goals, planning and executing your goals. You will be unstoppable!
